Hidden in the valley of leafy Roseville, Rosie is a charming single-storey brick home with great structural integrity. The tight budget, heritage conservation controls and dark, uninviting interiors posed challenges, but the redesign transformed the layout within the existing footprint, avoiding council approvals under the Complying Development Housing Alterations code. The new plan features four generous bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen with a servery and butler’s pantry, and salvaged original windows. The connection to the large garden was enhanced, making the home light, bright, and inviting. This new layout provides great visual connectivity between spaces and generous amenities for a growing family. We were able to bring luxury inclusions to a modest budget by creatively reappropriating what we had to work with.
